Reminder to Parents

The School Day at Welder Elementary & Sinton Elementary is:

7:40 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Smith Middle School & Sinton High School will remain at:

7:55 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SHS will be providing the opportunity, on a voluntary basis, to students to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on September 26, 2018.  The ASVAB is an aptitude test that covers eight areas, which are related to different careers.  An aptitude indicates your readiness to become proficient in a certain type of activity.  The eight areas of the test include General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Work knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics knowledge,  Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information, and Mechanical Comprehension.  This assesses a student's ability to learn new skill and is a predictor of success in training and education programs.

Students will receive a Career Exploration Guide when their test results are returned to them.  This guide includes an interest inventory that will help students use their interest and ASVAB scores to explore both civilian and military occupations.  There are no obligation to enter the military after taking the test.
